Our History |
The Memphis Belle is a USAAF Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress built in 1942.
With her aircrew, she went on to fly 25 successful missions in Europe. Her name originated from the pilot's sweetheart who was from Memphis, Tennessee. In 1943, the Memphis Belle returned to the United States on a publicity tour to sell war bonds. She was on display in Memphis, Tennessee from 1945 through 2005. In 2005, the National Museum of the United States Air Force moved the Memphis Belle to Dayton, Ohio for restoration. Today, she is still under restoration at the museum in Dayton. |
